The scientist at the Wuhan Institute of Virology known as the "bat woman" has "multiple connections with military officials," NBC News reported.

The network's senior international correspondent, Keir Simmons, said NBC News has evidence Dr. Shi Zhengli "and others collaborated with a military scientist on coronavirus research in spring 2018 and with another military scientist, Zhou Yusen, in December 2019."

The report, featured on "NBC Nightly News" and spotlighted by Breitbart News, said that last fall, an article authored by the military scientist lists him in a footnote as deceased.

The network said it has been "unable to ascertain the circumstances of his death."

Last month, House Intelligence Committee Republicans released a report concluding there is "overwhelming circumstantial evidence" the novel coronavirus came from the Wuhan lab and that scientists there were secretly working with the Chinese military, conducting risky gain-of-function research. The report noted the People's Liberation Army has "a documented biological weapons program."

Last week, the National Pulse reported the National Institutes of Health under the leadership of Dr. Francis Collins funded a Chinese Communist Party-run scientific organization tied to the People’s Liberation Army,

Collins, who recently confessed the U.S. had "no control" over the Wuhan Insitute of Virology despite funding it, signed a memorandum of understanding to boost collaboration with the National Natural Science Foundation of China, or NSFC.

NSFC describes itself as a state-owned scientific body that is "guided by President Xi Jinping’s Socialist Thoughts with Chinese Characteristics for the new era." It has collaborated extensively with the People's Liberation Army, "earnestly implementing the spirit of the Party’s 19th National Congress."
